Further to the conclusions of the 11 and 12 March Hygiene and Safety Committee meetings of the Ports of Genoa, Prà, Savona and Vado Ligure, and in response to the latest Italian Prime Ministerial Decree of 11 March, the Western Ligurian Sea Port Authority has published a set of guidelines and precautionary measures which must be adopted in all the port terminals and shipyards of its jurisdiction

Genoa, 13 March 2020 - The Port Authority official document sets forth the following provisions to address the concerns voiced by the dockers regarding workplace safety in this public health emergency:

  • All terminal operating companies and shipyards must ensure that the handling equipment and workplaces are disinfected at regular intervals and in line with the public health authority requirements

    • surfaces and objects must be cleaned directly by the workers at the end of each shift with disinfectants provided by the employer;
    • promote a minimum 5/10-minute respiratory hygiene in the vehicle or workplace at the end of each shift;
    • ensure that co-workers maintain at least 1 metre distance, and in the event that this distance cannot be guaranteed for operational reasons, further precautionary measures must be adopted, such as the supply of surgical masks and gloves, in compliance with the Prime Ministerial Decree of 11 March 2020
  • The Port Authority requires all the port operating companies to ascertain on the part of medical staff that the set measures prescribed have been implemented
