First stop at Vado Ligure Terminal, followed by a meeting with President Signorini.

25 June 2018 – A high-level delegation of Cosco Shipping, composed of Ms Zhang Tong, Li Lin and Wang Yuqing, accompanied by Italy’s Cosco Shipping Lines Managing Director, Hu Hua, together with Augusto Cosulich, Managing Director of Fratelli Cosulich and Marco Donati, General Manager of Coscos, visited the Port of Vado Ligure where construction works for the new multipurpose terminal are near completion and is scheduled to commence operations in the latter part of 2019. The terminal will be managed by APM Maersk in partnership with Cosco and Qingdao Port which have acquired a 49% stake in the terminal operating company.
The Managing Director of APM, Paolo Cornetto, accompanied the delegation to inspect the construction site, where 60% of planned works have been completed and the Automated RMG cranes, supplied by the Chinese company ZPMC, have in part already been installed along the quayline.
At Palazzo San Giorgio, headquarters of the Western Ligurian Sea Port Authority, President Paolo Emilio Signorini illustrated the future strategic role of the Ports of Genoa within the Chinese Belt Road Initiative. The delegation was particularly interested in the future development plans of Italy’s premier gateway port which, with the near-completion of the Rhine-Alpine Corridor, is poised to consolidate a viable alternative to the Northern Range ports in terms of the shipment of traffic to/from the major industrial and consumer markets of Central Europe and the Far East.
As underlined by President Signorini, “Thanks to the sizable public and private investment programmes underway, European market penetration from the south is no longer a distant mirage but has become a concrete opportunity”.
