Genoa's port gate security facility upgrade is near completion. A range of tangible and intangible infrastructure - including new port fences, automatic number-plate and container recognition, automated port gates - is currently being installed across all main 14 port access points to the Port of Genoa, in compliance with international guidelines.

Upgrade at the Etiopia Port Gate, one of the major gates in the Sampierdarena basin, has been designed to ease congestion and improve heavy vehicle access. Spanning 22 metres, the gate is equipped to cater for all commodity sectors, ranging from containers to ro-ro and heavy-lift and oversize loads up to 70 metres long. In addition, a full-height pedestrian turnstile has been put in place to provide reliable individual secure entry separation for pedestrians from heavy vehicle access.
