Refurbishment works are soon to be completed at Ponte Eritrea, the final phase of the extensive plan underway to upgrade and retrofit the quaywalls in Genoa’s Sampierdarena freight handling area and passenger port.

Dock reinforcement across jet grouting ground improvement techniques, at Ponte San Giorgio’s solid bulk facilities and at the cruise port of Ponte dei Mille and Ponte Doria, has been successfully concluded, whilst completion rate at Ponte Eritrea’s general cargo terminal is at 90%. Tests are in progress and by mid-year the quay will be fully operational. Plans are also afoot to dredge alongside to increase the draught of the dock to 14 metres.

The 28-million euro wide-ranging plan to retrofit the docks in the Port of Genoa kicked off in June 2022, with the objective of equipping the terminal facilities with the capability to accommodate the next generation of ultra-large container and passenger ships.
