Costa Cruises organises a public consultation at the Priamar Fortress in Savona entitled “The Use of LNG in Ports: poised between Innovation and Social Responsibility

Savona, 23 January 2020 – An open consultation to provide local authorities and the public with precise information on the environmental policies in force in the ports and on the tools adopted to implement port sustainable activities. The event focused on the role of LNG – liquefied natural gas - a revolutionary fuel which cuts CO2 emissions by 26% and which since 2019 has been used by 200 ships regularly calling at the Western Ligurian Sea Ports. The President of the Port Authority, Paolo Emilio Signorini, invited as panel speaker together with the Mayor of Savona, Ilaria Caprioglio and Neil Palomba, Managing Director of Costa Crociere, highlighted the exceptional distinguishing feature of the Port of Savona: the only facility in the Mediterranean offering along a small stretch of coastline both a 900 teu-capacity full-container terminal, ranking amongst the most advanced in Europe, and the Palacrociere Cruise Terminal, homeport for Costa Cruises. The Port President also acknowledged the important role played by the major cruise liners in sustaining and investing in port operations with low environmental impact.
