New boost to Port of Genoa rail services to Rivalta Scrivia, Padua and Milan Smistamento Inland Terminals

The new direct rail container services were launched at the beginning of the month by Mercitalia Rail (Polo Mercitalia).

Specifically, to date, intermodal connections from Genoa’s VTE (Voltri Terminal Europa) will include an additional six weekly freight trains to Rivalta Scrivia Inland Terminal (for Autosped), two extra weekly trains to Padua Inland Terminal (for Logtainer) and two additional weekly trains to Milan Smistamento Terminal (for Mercitalia Intermodal). Rete Ferroviaria Italiana and Mercitalia Rail’s concerted efforts, since mid-August, to reactivate the rail infrastructure in the Port of Genoa have resulted in the full resumption of all railway services.

The new rail links form part of the FS Italiane Group’s overall strategy to improve the intermodal split in the Port of Genoa, by shifting more cargo from road to rail.
