From Renzo Piano's blueprint to the busy building site, the Port of Genoa's new Control Tower is under construction in the Levante Waterfront. The foundations of the building, designed to accommodate the port pilots operations, take shape and will be connected by a boarding bridge to the artificial island where the steel and glass-panelled Tower with the observation room is set to dominate the harbour skyline.
Specifically, quay retrofitting continues across the injection of cement at high pressure with the use of jet grouting techniques. Eastside the building's elevator shaft takes shape across the installation of the 48 footings at the base of the foundation construction; westside, quay refurbishment goes ahead to provide protection to the marina and to the future Control Tower.
The new Port Control Tower is scheduled for completion by the opening of Genoa's International Boat Show in 2024.
