During the course of the visit, President Signorini illustrated the strategic role of the Ports of Genoa as a modern logistics platform serving all the major manufacturing companies and industries of Italy, with a focus on the 3-billion euro wide-ranging infrastructure investment plan underway across Genoa, Savona and Vado Ligure to meet the challenges posed by the advent of the trans-oceanic ultra-large container vessels and increases in traffic volumes.
The meeting provided the diplomatic mission with the opportunity to discuss the prospects for future growth in bilateral trade between Italy and Romania, with total trade in 2022 having registered a record level of 20 billion euros. In addition, both parties pledged their commitment to developing new forms of collaboration in the vibrant maritime industry, with a forthcoming Sisterport Agreement to be forged between the Ports of Genoa and the Port of Costanza, Romania's premier port and now also key transit hub for Ukrainian grain.
