
The Ports of Genoa and Savona-Vado firmly consolidate their strategic role for trade with Latin America, registering consistently significant levels of traffic across the agri-food, industrial and manufacturing industries. Specifically, in Ecuador, the Ports of Guayquil and Porsorja ship over 4,300 TEUs into the Port of Vado Ligure, whilst terminal container facilities at Genoa and Pra’ handled almost 3,200 TEUs from Ecuador in 2024. In addition, it is important to note that Reefer Terminal at Vado ranks as one of the Mediterranean’s leading fruit terminals in terms of imports from South America, thereby firmly consolidating the role of the Ports of Genoa as international maritime hub for perishable goods. The Consul highlighted that a large part of the Ecuadorian community, residing in Genoa and in Liguria overall, is employed across the Italian region’s vibrant logistics industry.
During the talks, both parties confirmed their firm commitment to fostering trade relations and opening up to new business opportunities, Ecuador and Italy can capitalise further upon the strong economic ties forged between the two nations in the agri-food industry, to extend new opportunities across a wide range of sectors, including infrastructure, agricultural equipment, plastic, timber and leather goods.
