Two of the three rail lines which had to be shut down, following the collapse of the Morandi Bridge on 14 August, are set to reopen on Thursday, 4 October: specifically, services will resume along the Sommergibile rail freight link with the Port of Genoa, and the Bastioni northbound railway line connected with the passenger/freight railroad to Acqui/Ovada and Busalla/Arquata Scrivia via Sampierdarena/Rivarolo.
Whilst rail service disruption continues along the Sussidiaria line which is scheduled to reopen only upon completion of the removal of debris and the demolition of the remainder of the bridge.
Plans are afoot to reintroduce 82 daily regional passenger train services which will resume along the Genoa-Acqui Terme (26 trains), Genoa-Rivarolo-Busalla (24 trains) and Genoa-Arquata-Novi Ligure (32 trains) lines. Rail freight services will also resume to/from the Port of Genoa junction, with several train timetable changes due to be made in response to the continued closure of the two railway tracks of the Sussidiaria line. Nevertheless, freight operations to/from the port rail junction will be scheduled according to the commercial requirements of the port terminals. In the first six days following the reactivation of the railway lines, that is, until 9 October, trains will travel along the tracks affected by the engineering works at a reduced speed of 30 km/h, which will impact upon the transit times indicated in the official timetables.
