Vado Ligure container terminal set to go live on 12 december 2019

Three new ARMG cranes are scheduled to arrive on 12 June 2019 “Vado Gateway”, the state-of-the-art container terminal in Vado Ligure, is scheduled to open on 12 December 2019. APM Terminals has a 50.1% share in the terminal operating company APM. Terminals Vado Ligure, with COSCO Shipping Ports holding a 40% stake and Qingdao Port International Development Co. Ltd a 9.9% stake.

To date, works in progress on the terminal are 82% complete. The new container terminal features a 16-metre draft alongside a 700-linear metre quay and the docks, 4.5 metres above sea level, can accommodate the ULCS – Ultra Large Container Ships. Maximum handling capacity is estimated at 900,000 TEUs per annum. The terminal will offer a full range of technologically-advanced handling equipment manufactured by the Shanghai-based ZPMC, including 5 ship-to-shore cranes, a batch of automated rail mounted gantry cranes and 19 straddle carriers.

APM Terminals is firmly committed to consolidating Vado Gateway’s role as gateway port for the major industrial and consumer centres of Northern Italy, Switzerland, Germany and North-eastern France.

The container terminal will also benefit from its strategic geographical position along China’s new Maritime Silk Road. The Port of Vado Ligure is composed of two fully-integrated terminals: APM Terminals’ exist-ing Reefer Terminal and the new semi-automated Vado Gateway container terminal.

By the end of 2019, the two integrated terminals will feature the first semi-automated port and fully-automated gate and stacking yard in Italy.
