Terminal facilities overall performed strongly at the Ports of Genoa and Savona-Vado Ligure in April 2024, with an increase in cargo throughput of +11.3% on the corresponding period of the previous year to a monthly total of 5,759,747 tons.
Genoa, 24 May 2024 - The Port of Genoa's New Breakwater unfolds along the Sampierdarena basin, opposite the landmark 16th century Lighthouse. The first of the over 90 caissons, set to form part of the initial 4 km of the large-scale maritime infrastructure facility and which, upon overall completion, will stretch along a 6 km coastline, was positioned at a depth of 25 metres.
The Cesare Imperiale waterfront promenade, which cuts along Genoa's cruise port, officially opens to passengers following the completion of extensive refurbishment works.
The New Open-Sea Breakwater takes shape as the fast-paced construction of the caissons takes off, with the near-completion of the first of 100 caissons set to form the 6,200 metre port facility.

Genoa, 15 April 2024 – The revolutionary integrated mobility plan, to fast-track connections between Genova City Airport, the railway network and the Passenger Ports of Genoa and Savona, was unveiled today at the Port Authority headquarters of Palazzo San Giorgio. The new hub is designed to intercept and integrate the multiple modes of transport used by the cruise passengers embarking from Liguria to access the terminals, with the added objective of activating a seamless sustainable mobility system with minimal environmental impact on the city-ports.
The cruise industry's premier event provided the fitting backdrop to the announcement that the Sun Princess is scheduled to make its inaugural call at the Port of Genoa next 16 May. The US Princess Cruises' newest addition to the fleet, built in Italy by the Fincantieri Shipyard in Monfalcone, at 345 metres in length is set to rank as the longest cruise vessel, to date, to have ever docked in Genoa's passenger port.
