Rail link upgrade in Vado completed,
Technological optimisation of the Vado Ligure rail link safety and signalling systems has been completed.
The rail link improvement works in Vado Ligure were successfully delivered by the Western Ligurian Sea Port Authority on 7 September. The project implemented to revamp the two level crossings in Via Piave and Via Trieste was designed to improve safety protection and reduce the risk of interference between port rail freight and urban traffic. RFI (Italian Rail Network) upgrade works on the Parco Doria railway line signalling system are also on schedule for completion in the autumn, whilst the preliminary activities of the second phase of construction works in Vado, to expand the Vado Ligure Industrial Zone Station and the intermodal terminal serving the port, are in progress.
The first eight months of 2021 registered a 91% increase in rail traffic in/out the Port of Vado Ligure compared to the previous year, recording to date a total of approximately 11,600 rail cars to accommodate the growth in container trade handled in Vado Gateway to/from the major manufacturing areas in Northern Italy, specifically in Lombardy, Emilia and Veneto.
