Paolo Piacenza appointed Port Government Commissioner

Paolo Piacenza was officially appointed today, 8 September 2023, Government Commissioner of the Western Ligurian Sea Port Authority by Decree n. 217 of the Italian Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Matteo Salvini.

Genova – The decision taken to nominate Piacenza, a senior Administrative Law professional, and Secretary-General of the Port Authority since May 2021, in addition to Chief Director of Port Governance, Business Plans and Subsidiary Companies, ensures continuity in the policies and infrastructure investment plan implemented across the Ports of Genoa and Savona-Vado Ligure, strategic to the economic growth of the country.

The newly designated Government Port Commissioner has also been elected Government Administrator of the Savona Cable Car System - San Giuseppe di Cairo.
The appointment followed the resignation of the Port Authority President Paolo Emilio Signorini who, with effect from 1st September 2023, has been nominated CEO and Director General of IREN S.p.A..

"I wish to extend my sincere thanks to Minister Matteo Salvini for the confidence he has placed in me. Genoa and Savona-Vado are at the centre of a major transformation which puts new infrastructure and port planning policies at the heart of the socio-economic development of the Liguria Region and of the nation. Thereby, it is with a sense of duty and firm commitment that I shall carry out my role, and press on with the activities conducted to date by the Port Authority," declared the new Commissioner.

Prior to his employment with the Western Ligurian Sea Port Authority in 2018, Paolo Piacenza pursued a distinguished career as senior lawyer, specialised in administrative law, public tenders and public-private partnerships. In addition, he served as Sole Director of I.R.E. S.p.A., and as legal counsel to NARS and DIPE, at the Italian Prime Minister's Government Office, in support of CIPE, the Inter-Ministerial Committee for Economic Planning.
