Port Operations and Services

The undertaking of port operations and services is subject to the authorisation of the Western Ligurian Sea Port Authority, in compliance with Article 16 of Italian Law of Port Reform 84/1994.

Port operations include the entire cycle of the transfer of cargo, or part of it, from one ship to another or to other modes of transport and vice versa. Specifically, port operations include the loading, unloading, transhipment, warehousing, and general handling of cargo, and any other material within the port area.

Port services refer to specialised front-line and back-up services complementary to the cycle of port operations. These services are regulated across local legislation.

Following the release of the specific authorisation, the company is listed in the dedicated register kept by the Business Activities Office for the Ports of Genoa-Pra' and by the Port Operations and Inspectors Office for the Ports of Savona-Vado Ligure.

Business Activities

To undertake commercial, industrial or artisan activities in the Ports of Genoa, Prà, Savona and Vado Ligure, it is obligatory to be listed in the Register – compiled and updated by the Port Authority (pursuant to Article 68 of the Code for Navigation) – and to hold the required authorisations.

Shipbuilding Sector

In the Ports of Genoa and Pra', as stipulated by the Regulations for the Shipbuilding Sector, it is necessary to hold specific business licences or authorisations issued by the Western Ligurian Sea Port Authority to carry out construction, refitting, reconversions, repair, demolition, and specialised work on freight and passenger ships, yachts and floating offshore facilities alike.

Event Organisation at the Port

Non-profit events or initiatives organised in sites located within the state maritime domain (Article 30 Italian Code for Nav.) must be authorised in advance by the Westen Ligurian Sea Port Authority by sending a request online via theSingle Window Administrative Desk.

With reference to events organised in buffer areas 30 metres from the state maritime domain, authorisation can be requested via the specific Application Form dedicated to the organisation of events in buffer areas pursuant to Article 55 of the Code for Navigation, which can be downloaded at the following link:FORM2 (pdf - 203.74 Kb)

With reference to the organisation of commercial events in the state maritime areas, authorisation will be granted across a maritime concession.
