Supervision and control
Security
The Western Ligurian Sea Port Authority conducts surveillance and control through the Security Office, which monitors the upkeep of high security standards in the port areas of Genoa-Pra' and Savona-Vado Ligure by implementing various actions, initiatives, measures, and interventions. The office collaborates closely with other State Administrations responsible for ensuring the protection of the Port as a critical national infrastructure.
In particular, the Port Security Officers of Genoa-Pra' and Savona-Vado (designated by decree from the Head of the respective Maritime Compartment among the authorised Western Ligurian Sea Port Authority personnel) are responsible for preparing and updating the Risk Assessment, the subsequent Security Plans for common port areas, and the security evaluations for individual terminals and port installations, while coordinating with the Port Facility Security Officers. Based on the security evaluations, they implement monitoring and control actions to deter potential illegal activities targeting vessels, terminals, operators, travellers, and cargo.
The port gates are staffed by personnel from a Surveillance Institute and equipped with an advanced video monitoring system that oversees the port spaces, limits, and waterways continuously, 24/7. The Security Monitoring Centre quickly identifies important maritime security incidents and offers information to aid focused actions, in collaboration with the Police Forces and Maritime Authorities like the Harbour Master’s Office, Prefecture, Maritime Border Police, Fire Brigade, Carabinieri, and others.
The AdSP, while aiming for national and EU goals of digitising processes, has invested in restructuring access controls at port gates through gate automation. These actions are part of the effort of simplifying access protocols, aimed at enhancing the capability to monitor and automate port entries, in accordance with national and international regulations regarding maritime security.
Real-time monitoring of transits through port gates not only increases the efficiency of security, but also enables dematerialised access management, resulting in more sustainable and seamless logistics for goods and travellers.
Access to port gates requires specific authorisations and permits for Genoa-Pra’ and Savona-Vado Ligure.
Investments in human capital, along with investments in advanced technologies, enable comprehensive management of all security-related processes, alongside the pursuit of innovative and systemic methods and solutions to tackle the daily challenges within the field of port security.
The management and oversight of border crossings also enable, due to recent funding and the knowledge of the Security Office, the advancement of regulatory processes and order in mobility, both for vehicles and pedestrians, in line with the Port Security Plan and the Port Regulatory Plan.
