Escola Europea - Intermodal Transport is the European reference centre for training in logistics and intermodal transport and its main objective is to promote intermodalism as the basis for the development of sustainable logistics in Europe. Ports of Genoa is one of the five founding members of this centre, which celebrated its 10th anniversary in 2016. The Escola courses aim to train participants in intermodal logistics, Short Sea Shipping services and Motorways of the Sea. Through the courses, participants can also observe and learn more about the operational aspects of intermodal transport. Courses on maritime intermodalism and Motorways of the Sea are aimed at industry professionals and university students in logistics, transport and international trade. They take place on board the ferries operating Short Sea Shipping services and last about three to four days, during which participants experience an SSS route first-hand. During the crossing., participants have the opportunity to view operational aspects, port communities and port facilities. SURCO (Simple Use of Railway Connections) courses offer training in intermodal railway logistics. Aimed at professionals from maritime and rail freight transport companies and students of logistics and transport, the course offers an analysis of the different elements required to offer efficient intermodal (rail/sea) transport solutions. Escola adapts its programmes to the specific needs of groups and can include within its training courses a space for cultural visits to Genoa, Barcelona or Rome. Escola aims to help industry professionals create competitive services and efficient logistics chains, using ports as central points for intermodal exchange. For this reason, Escola also offers technical courses on groupage and freight consolidation centres, courses on the transport of refrigerated goods and courses on port operations. Throughout the year, Escola organises courses exclusively for professionals in which, in addition to lectures and case studies, networking, an opportunity to create future professional relationships between participants, is an important part of the training.
