The port system
Road transport
The port system of Genoa and Savona-Vado is a crucial node for international trade and logistics, thanks to its efficient and extensive road network. The ports are directly connected to the main national and international road axes, guaranteeing quick and safe access to European logistics corridors. This infrastructure facilitates the best distribution of goods, promoting synergy among different transport modes and modal transfer. Strategic distances include Milan (145 km), Turin (170 km) and the main distribution centres in northern Italy, all within a radius of about 300 km.

The Genoa and Savona Port Authority is constantly striving to enhance the efficiency of road links to port terminals, minimising travel times and enhancing safety and security.
Dedicated road transport infrastructures, such as dedicated car parks and safe parking areas for hauliers, are designed to aid in the handling of substantial traffic and lessen the ecological effects of transport operations. The enhancement of port logistics is supported by targeted interventions and technological and digitalisation solutions that help boost the competitiveness of the overall system. This dedication is shown in the infrastructure development strategy, which aligns with the goals of the Italian National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR) and the European guidelines on sustainable mobility.
These initiatives reinforce the ports of Genoa and Savona as a key centre for multi-modal transport and a driving force for economic development across the region.
