Acciaierie d'Italia, Italy's leading steel manufacturer, operates the Polcevera and Diga Aeroporto docks, which furnish the company with the infrastructure needed for rapid and efficient cargo handling in the unloading of finished and semi-processed goods shipped from the Taranto steel plant, a member of the same group.

The Genoa-Cornigliano plant, in operation since 1953, is the only steel plant in Italy equipped to produce tinned and electrolytically chromed strip. With an annual capacity of 1.5 million tonnes, it plays a strategic role as a logistics hub, in terms of integration between manufacturing and supply chain management across the plants sited in Novi Ligure, Racconigi and Paderno Dugnano and its catchment market in Northern Italy and Southern Europe.

Within the framework of the redevelopment programme of the Cornigliano area, an agreement was signed with Ansaldo Energia to construct a hangar for the assembly of gas turbine engines which are shipped overseas from the docks alongside the Polcevera..This agreement has provided the Port of Genoa with the opportunity to boost the handling of a new type of highly specialised project cargo trade.

The Genoa-Cornigliano plant caters for diverse production lines, including food cans and two hot-dip galvanising lines, and it ranks as the only one in Italy to produce tin, primarily used by the food and beverage industry.
