Ports of Genoa Clean Energy Transition

Genoa and Savona-Vado Ligure, Italy’s premier port cluster and amongst Europe’s top container and passenger ports, are energy-intensive hubs which impact upon the local environment. Within this framework, the Western Ligurian Sea Port Authority pledges its full support to the efficient deployment of resources, to reconcile economic development with environmental protection, and to contribute to the climate change adaptation strategies in force.

To this end, the Port Authority implements a sustainable energy and environmental management plan which phases in a sharp reduction in the CO2 emissions produced by port activities, across the gradual elimination of fossil fuels.

Across the deployment of the Carbon Footprint, the index that calculates the amount of greenhouse gas emissions associated with port operations, the Port Authority constantly monitors the emissions deriving from the passenger and cargo terminal activities, intermodal road/rail hubs, heavy goods vehicle traffic, ships at berth and buildings located in the Ports of Genoa, Pra’, Savona and Vado.
