Construction works have commenced at Ponte Eritrea in the cargo handling area of the Sampierdarena basin to retrofit and upgrade the quaywall.

The project features amongst the extensive plans to renovate the docks in the old port and passenger port of Genoa to equip Ponte Eritrea, Ponte San Giorgio, Ponte dei Mille and Ponte Doria for the advent of the ultra-large container and passenger vessels. Once the renovation works have been completed, plans are afoot to dredge alongside the quay to increase the draught of the dock to 14 metres.
