New major road construction in the Port of Genoa goes ahead,
Following the call for tenders for extensive road construction in the Port of Genoa, as outlined in the emergency Investment Programme presented by the Western Ligurian Sea Port Authority and approved under the Emergency Decree for Genoa of 15 January 2019, the 130-million euro contract was awarded to Pizzarotti & C. SpA, at the helm of a consortium appointed to implement the definitive and executive project and to carry out the roadworks
Genoa, 3 February 2020 - Plans are now afoot to commence with the extension of the port roadway in the Sampierdarena basin; the upgrading of the San Benigno road network links with the port gates and the new Calata Bettolo container terminal; the completion of the Via della Superba; the installation of the new Ponente truck parking area; the construction of the new Papa Bridge and related dredging works; the restructuring of the Via Pionieri e Aviatori d'Italia viaduct ; and quay wall strengthening works at the Ponte dei Mille cruise terminal. The planned roadworks have been divided in three distinct phases: short, medium and long-term. Paolo Emilio Signorini, President of the Western Ligurian Sea Port Authority, commented, "This new major infrastructure is set to improve not only port road traffic management, but will simultaneously also ease urban traffic congestion, since the smart road freight-dedicated corridors will have positive repercussions on traffic management across the entire city." The contract with the consortium Pizzarotti & C. SpA was signed during the presentation of the project.
