Ports of Genoa Traffic Volumes - October 2020,
The Ports of Genova, Prà, Savona and Vado reported total cargo volumes (excluding industrial products) of 5,211723 tons in October 2020, a -4.9% dip compared to the corresponding period of the previous year, but a +21.7% increase on September 2020, and a fall of -15.5% on the first ten months of 2019, registering a total of 46,450,041 tons.
Container throughput recorded by the Ports of Genoa dropped by -4% on the month of October 2019 and by -9.4% on the first ten months of the year, for a total of 2,039,671 teu which, to date, does not include box traffic handled by the new Bettolo-Genoa Mediterranean Gateway Terminal which opened in the latter part of the month.
The inauguration of the new dedicated container facility consolidates Genoa's strategic role as a modern logistics platform serving Northern Italy's leading industrial and consumer centres.
Conventional cargo decreased by -3.5% on the corresponding period of the previous year, compared to a -8.3% reported in September, whilst solid bulk rose by +31.1%, in comparison with a -46.7% recorded in September, and liquid bulk declined by -13.9% on October 2019, compared to a -51.1% fall in September.
The cruise and ferry passenger shipping industry continues to be severely affected by the global public health emergency, and in the Ports of Genoa the month-on-month passenger throughput slumped by -79,4% after 3 months of moderate growth.
