On target, the Government Commissioner Paolo Emilio Signorini officially approved the technical and financial feasibility study for the project of Genoa's New Breakwater and today, 1st June 2022, the invitation letters to tender for the construction of the first phase of the major port infrastructure have been sent out.

The President of the National Transport Regulation Authority, Nicola Zaccheo, flanked by the Board Directors Carla Roncallo and Francesco Parola and the Secretary General Guido Improta, met in Genoa with Western Ligurian Sea Port Authority President Paolo Emilio Signorini and Secretary General Paolo Piacenza, for a broad discussion on the regulatory and authorisation processes governing the Italian port industry, with a specific focus on Genoa, Italy's leading port, and on the programme of development plans in progress financed across the Recovery and Resilience Facility Complementary Fund.

On 27 May the Select Committee of the Public Works Upper Council of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Sustainable Mobility gave the go-ahead to the Port of Genoa's key strategic project for the building of the New Breakwater. At this juncture, the Port Authority is on track to publish, by the beginning of June, the invitation to tender for the executive design and construction works.

In April 2022 the Ports of Genoa, Savona and Vado Ligure handled 5,561,231 tons of total cargo throughput, a +4.3% advance on the corresponding period of 2021, and reported a total of 22,134,691 tons in the four-month period, up +10.5% compared to the previous year, and not far behind pre-pandemic levels in 2019 (-1.7%).

The Western Ligurian Sea Port Authority, flanked by a selection of terminal operators, showcased its full range of port services and facilities in Rotterdam, from 17 to 19 May, at the world's leading breakbulk event. After a two-year stoppage, due to the repercussions of the pandemic, enthusiasm for the global event reached new heights with the participation of 600 exhibitors from 120 countries and over 9000 visitors.

Today, the historical port headquarters of Palazzo San Giorgio provided the backdrop to the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the President of the Western Ligurian Sea Port Authority, Paolo Emilio Signorini, and the Trade and Transformation Director of Group Supply Chain & Logistics, DP World, Simon Pitout.

The hull of Seabourn's second purpose-built expedition cruise ship is moved to Genoa's Mariotti Shipyard for refit.

The demolition works of the pierhead in the berthing marina along the Levante Waterfront have been completed.

The quaywall retrofitting and dredging works alongside Ponte dei Mille West have been completed on schedule. 

The Chief Director of Financial Resource Planning and Auditing of the Western Ligurian Sea Port Authority, Lucia Cristina Tringali, attended the First Edition of the Italian Business Integrity Day held in Bucharest on 12 April.
