2018 is poised to be another record year for the Ports of Genoa as traffic continues to grow. The container port sector registered a 10.6% increase, a total of 431,595 teus, on last year’s comparable period. Conventional cargo also performed strongly, reporting a 5.4% advance on the previous year. Specifically, ro-ro traffic grew by 8%, 2 million tonnes compared to the 1.8 million tonnes handled in 2017. Whilst the solid bulk terminals posted a 7.3% advance on the corresponding period of the previous year. The passenger sector experienced a slowdown, an 11.6% decrease compared to 2017, with a total passenger count of 232,201. The Cruise Terminal in Savona registered a reduction of 37%, whilst Stazioni Marittime’s cruise passenger throughput in Genoa grew by 4.8%; ferry traffic showed a 6% decrease on last year’s comparable period.
