PSA Voltri-Pra has officially launched the new truck management system.

The Western Ligurian Sea Port Authority and Terminal San Giorgio have undersigned the new port concession agreement which extends the concession period up to 2033 in the 60,000 sqm-Ponte Somalia area, where the terminal management company has been operating since 2013.

With a surge in passenger throughput of 16.5% over the previous year, the Genoese hub officially ranks as Italy’s fastest growing airport in 2018.

An agreement was signed on 13 April 2018 between the Western Ligurian Sea Port Authority and Invitalia (the Investment Agency which reports to the Italian Ministry for Finance), for the implementation of the Port of Genoa’s new breakwater feasibility study and the tender for the construction works in the completion of the Ponte Ronco-Canepa Terminal.

13 September 2018 - The removal of the final obstacle to the installation of the new roadway in the port basin of Sampierdarena is underway: the “Customs” gate, separating the domestic from the international trade area, has been demolished in response to the disruption caused by the collapse of the Morandi Bridge.

The temporary traffic regulation order which had been introduced in the aftermath of the collapsed Morandi Bridge, restricting access of heavy goods vehicles over 7.5 tonnes in Lungomare Canepa in Sampierdarena, has been cancelled.

In the aftermath of the collapsed Morandi Bridge along the eastbound section of the A10 motorway Genova-Aeroporto and Genova-Ovest exits, a section of the motorway has been closed between the A10 (towards France) and A7/A12 motorway junction.

In response to the collapse of the Morandi Bridge, new regulations in force, from 16 - 26 August 2018, restrict access of heavy vehicles over 7.5 tonnes, from 08:00 hrs – 20:00 hrs, in Lungomare Canepa and Via Guido Rossa between the Fiumara Roundabout (excluded) and Lungomare Canepa: alternative routes have been put in place.

Preparations are underway to restart cruise operations in the West Med, with the return of Costa Smeralda in the homeport of Savona. The first departure is scheduled for the forthcoming 10 October, the day in which cruises are set to resume service in full safety for passengers and crew. Meanwhile, Costa Diadema arrives in the Port of Genoa and returns with sailings from the Ligurian capital as of 19 September

THE Alliance, which groups together major carriers Hapag-Lloyd, HMM, Ocean Network Express (ONE) and Yang Ming, has announced that, as of next week, the Far East-Mediterranean services are set to resume regular ports of call following the extended blank sailings reported - due to the heavy fall in industrial output and demand in China, Italy and the rest of Europe - during the Covid-19 public health emergency.

On the 1st of May 2020, the Port Authority launched a marketing campaign on social media network #WeArePortsofGenoa short clips of the dedicated members of the Western Ligurian Sea's vibrant shipping community, who have worked tirelessly throughout the Covid-19 public health emergency to ensure that the Ports of Genoa, Prà, Savona and Vado Ligure remained open and fully operational, guaranteeing the smooth movement of essential goods across the country, without disruptions to the supply chain and in full compliance of safety regulations.

According to data recently released by Port Economics on the top 15 European container ports in the first quarter of 2020, Genoa ranks as one of the few gateway ports to have maintained box volumes in line with the corresponding period of the previous year (+ 0.3%)

The Coronavirus public health emergency has had widespread repercussions on maritime transport and on crew and passenger management on board.

The International Maritime Organization (IMO) has sent out a CIrcular Letter, addressed to the governments of all the Member-States, the United Nations and relevant national authorities, tabling a preliminary list of recommendations and guidelines for the management and facilitation of maritime trade during the Covid-19 pandemic.

In response to recent Covid-19 health emergency directives, PSA Genova Pra' have announced that access to the One-Stop Office at their full-container terminal has been upgraded, with a switch from manual to automatic procedures.

Genoa, 15 April 2024 – The revolutionary integrated mobility plan, to fast-track connections between Genova City Airport, the railway network and the Passenger Ports of Genoa and Savona, was unveiled today at the Port Authority headquarters of Palazzo San Giorgio. Genoa, 4 March 2024 – Construction has officially started this morning in Genoa on Italy’s first undersea road tunnel, set to become Europe’s largest immersed tunnel. A sophisticated feat of Italian engineering which embraces a novel approach to large-scale infrastructure projects, planned with a major focus towards the future, in compliance with strict sustainable environmental, economic and social requirements. The new tunnel will play a key role in upgrading road access to Genoa, both in terms of urban and port traffic, Italy’s premier cargo and passenger port and leading Mediterranean global maritime gateway to the major European manufacturing and consumer centres.

New urban road infrastructure at the Port of Vado Ligure opens on schedule. The road link has been designed to ease traffic across Vado, whilst optimising port gate management of heavy vehicles in/out of Vado Gateway container terminal.

21 October 2022 - On a return visit to the Ports of Genoa and Savona-Vado Ligure after 4 years, the European Coordinator for the Rhine-Alpine core network corridor, Pawel Wojciechowski was invited to inspect the infrastructure construction sites underway, central to the investment programme designed to relaunch inland connections between Liguria and Central Southern Europe.

It ranks as the largest caisson to have been constructed to date with this range of equipment by Fincosit, pioneers of the industry: up to 25.6 metres high, 31 metres long, 22 metres wide and weighing up to 9340 tons. The reinforced-concrete cellular caisson was precast on the floating dock Dario, deployed by the company at the service of the breakwater extension in the Port of Vado Ligure.

The Port of Genoa's Terminal San Giorgio inaugurates a new automated gate designed to ease congestion and improve heavy vehicle access in/out the terminal facilities. Equipped with two 300-metre auxiliary storage lanes and three entrance and two exit lanes, the terminal gate can cater for all commodity sectors, ranging from containers to ro-ro and heavy-lift and oversize cargo.

With the installation of the deck, the final highly challenging phases of the on-site delivery of the new Pionieri e Aviatori d'Italia Viaduct, across via Siffredi between Cornigliano and Sestri Ponente, reached its conclusion at 5am Wednesday morning 28 September. By the end of the year, the new facility is scheduled to open to heavy vehicles to/from the Port of Genoa without the weight restrictions prescribed by the previous bridge.

Port security upgrade works continue across the summer to optimise secure access control solutions at the 14 gates across the Port of Genoa. Giano Gate will be closed from 23 August for approximately 30 days for construction works.

Quay reconstruction at the new Control Tower site is completed. Works on the tower are scheduled to go ahead after the closure of the 62nd edition of the Genoa Boat Show at the end of September, to minimise disruptions to the smooth running of the major international event.

As had already emerged from recent discussions, the two groups who had been invited by the Western Ligurian Sea Port Authority to tender for the elaboration of the detailed and executive design and the construction of the new Breakwater of the Port of Genoa, presented their offers by the bid submission deadline of midnight 26 July.

The Italian Minister for Infrastructure and Sustainable Mobility, Enrico Giovannini, inspected the Port of Genoa facilities on board the Coastguards' vessel, flanked by the Port Authority President Paolo Emilio Signorini, the Commander of the Port Admiral Sergio Liardo, the Mayor of Genoa Marco Bucci and the Prefect Renato Franceschelli.

EIB promotes climate action by providing €300 million to finance Port of Genoa expansion

• This is the first EIB operation in Italy for a project co-financed by the government with resources from the Recovery and Resilience Facility Complementary Fund.
• €500 million has been allocated from the Recovery and Resilience Facility Complementary Fund for the Genoa breakwater.
• The EIB support will support the construction of a breakwater, allowing modern cargo ships to access the port safely and upgrading the rail network to facilitate freight transit and reduce road traffic.
• Shore-to-ship electrical connections will also be developed, allowing berthed ships to receive power from the ground-based electricity network, cutting emissions from fuel.

The call for expressions of interest, to invite economic operators to apply to take part in the subsequent call for integrated tenders within the Project of the New Breakwater in the Port of Genoa, goes ahead. The integrated tender groups together the elaboration of the final and executive design and the full construction process and works of the new breakwater in the Sampierdarena basin.

The preliminaries in the construction works of Genoa's former Hennebique grain silos kick off after 50 years in complete disuse. This morning the details of the redevelopment programme of Hennebique, strategically located along the old port waterfront, were unveiled on-site by the Governor of the Liguria Region Giovanni Toti, the Mayor of Genoa Marco Bucci, the Port Authority President Paolo Emilio Signorini, the CEO of Vitali Group Cristian Vitali and the Architect Maurizio Tosi, Director of Starching Milan.

The reconstruction of the Calata Zingari quay in Genoa's passenger port is underway. The works are scheduled to be completed by 2022, with the reopening of the dock and the adjacent area catering for cruise passenger arrivals and departures and vessel handling services.

The redevelopment of Ponte Parodi is underway, an area at the heart of the far-reaching regeneration plan of the prime site which includes Hennebique, the former landmark grain silos of the Port of Genoa, and the construction of a new quay dedicated to cruise passenger traffic.

The integrated tender for the executive design and construction works for the retrofit of the Levante quay and dredging along Ponte San Giorgio has been assigned to the R.T.I. Injectosond Italia.

The tender to upgrade and reinforce security infrastructure in the Port of Genoa has been contracted to R.T.I. Infratech Consorzio Stabile

Project management of the new Breakwater has been contracted to RINA Consulting. Four tenders from the Investment Programme have been awarded in the last week, and an additional three are due to be announced shortly, for a total value of 80 million euros

Today, 30 July, the local authorities signed the Port of Savona-Vado Ligure Masterplan: the signatories featured the President of the Liguria Region Giovanni Toti, President of the Province of Savona Pierangelo Olivieri, the Western Ligurian Sea Port Authority President Paolo Emilio Signorini, and the Mayors of the Town Councils of Bergeggi, Vado Ligure, Quiliano, Savona, Albissola Marina, Albisola Superiore.

Following the meeting held on-site in Vado Ligure, the Vice Minister for Infrastructure and Sustainable Mobility, Teresa Bellanova, continued her visit to the Ports of Genoa, in the landmark building of Palazzo San Giorgio, headquarters of the Port Authority, after a boat inspection of Genoa's multi-commodity port facilities.

During his first official visit to Genoa, the U.S. Consul General in Milan, Robert Needham, together with the Consul for Political and Economic Affairs, Holly Holzer, had the opportunity to inspect Genoa’s port facilities. Accompanied by the President of the Port Authority, Paolo Emilio Signorini, the US delegation visited the passenger port and the container and multi-purpose terminals of the Sampierdarena and Prà basins, onboard the Genoa Mooring Services vessel.

"Doing Business with Italian Ports". The event, organised by the U.S. Department of Commerce's International Trade Administration, in conjunction with the U.S. Consulate General in Milan and the Embassy in Rome, to illustrate the Ports of Genoa major infrastructure programme to U.S. companies.

Today, Paolo Emilio Signorini, the President of the Port Authority of the Western Ligurian Sea, has been officially nominated Commissioner of the New Breakwater of the Port of Genoa by the Italian Minister of Infrastructure and Sustainable Mobility
