The Port of Genoa was selected, together with the Ports of Rotterdam and Hamburg, by the Ministry of Transportation of the Indonesian Government of Papua, as part of a comparative study conducted within the project on Training on Port Management and Port Visit Europe, organised by the Indonesian Port Expert Associations based in Jakarta.
A prime objective of the association is to provide training and education to local shipping operators through visits to specific ports worldwide: this year the focus is on Europe. The delegation on Monday, 6 August 2018 had the opportunity to inspect port facilities in Genoa with Port Authority management, and to examine in detail legislation regarding port governance in Italy, with the aim of enhancing practical know-how in specific areas, such as port masterplan, concessions and relations between port authority, local government and central government. The Port Study Group completed the one day-visit with an on-site inspection of VTE, Genoa’s flagship container terminal managed by PSA, where the delegation members were keen to gain an insight from port officials in the operation of the key phases in the management of one of Southern Europe’s leading box gateway terminals.
