The Western Ligurian Sea Port Authority and Terminal San Giorgio have undersigned the new port concession agreement which extends the concession period up to 2033 in the 60,000 sqm-Ponte Somalia area, where the terminal management company has been operating since 2013.
Genoa, 14 February 2019 – “The Port Authority is at an important juncture ”, comments the Port President Paolo Emilio Signorini, “as this contract completes the renegotiation of the long-term port terminal concession agreements of the Sampierdarena basin, a process which commenced at the beginning of 2017. The terms and conditions formalized in the port concessions are the basis from which the terminal management companies can develop their individual business activities, whilst simultaneously strengthening the overall competitive position of the Ports of Genoa in the international marketplace”.
“Terminal San Giorgio has been operating out of the Port of Genoa since 2006, where to date we have invested over 50 million euros” declares Maurizio Anselmo, Managing Director of Terminal San Giorgio Srl. “The new concession agreement will be the driving force behind the development of our long-term business plan and the implementation of a sizeable investment programme, to boost our operational capacity and improve the future outlook of both the terminal and the Port of Genoa overall. We are planning to invest approximately 12 million euro in the next three years, for a total of more than 20 million euro over a 13-year period. Our key objective is to double our throughput and handle over 2.2 million tons of cargo. In addition, we are pleased to announce that, in line with our major investment programme, we aim to recruit an additional 10 people over the next three years”.
