The Port of Genoa hosts the christening ceremony of the newbuilt Ro-Ro, Maria Grazia Onorato, of the Onorato Armatori Group, at the helm of Moby Lines and Tirrenia.
15 May 2019 - The new flagship of the Italian carrier has been described as the largest and greenest ro-ro vessel to set sail in the Mediterranean: 4,076 lane metres of garage deck, with a capacity of 283 trailers. Delivered by the German shipyard Flensburger, built in compliance with the most recent developments in environmental sustainability and installed with state-of-the-art scrubbers which reduce CO2 content in the fumes emitted by the ship from 3.5% to 0.1%, the ro-ro ship is scheduled to offer regular connections from Genoa to Leghorn, Catania and Malta. It has been designed to cater to a rise in the demand for high quality shipping services on the part of road-hauliers which increasingly use the services offered by Onorato along the strategic Motorways of the Sea route from the Upper Tyrrhenian Sea to Sicily and down to the island of Malta. Trade is composed primarily of fresh fruit and vegetables.
