The Genoa-based San Giorgio del Porto SpA (SGdP) has won the contract to install scrubber plants, a cleaning system to reduce the emission of exhaust fumes, on board Grimaldi’s ships. The first of the two RoPax ferries of Grimaldi Holding to be refitted will be the “Forza”
The “Forza” ferry-cruise ship will be installed with hybrid-ready open-loop scrubbers, and refitted for subsequent modifications for a transition to the closed-loop. The vessel is to remain in the Genoese shipyard for 35 days, and will subsequently be subject to a series of tests. In January 2020, the “Forza” will be followed by its twin ship “Tenacia” which will also be refitted.
The installation of the scrubbers on the two units will employ over 150 workers who will also perform services to upgrade the ships’ engineering plants.
