Over 630 students from 24 educational institutions, across 4 countries, visited the Ports of Genoa, Savona and Vado Ligure in the first six months of the year to learn more on the wide range of activities performed by the ports and the excellent opportunities offered by the vibrant Ligurian blue economy.
One of the top priorities of the Ports of Genoa is to improve port-city relations by promoting dialogue and cooperation, with a firm commitment to fostering educational projects amongst the younger generation and a focus on career opportunities offered to the local community by Italy's premier port.
Examples of the close forms of collaboration forged between the Port Authority and stakeholders within this framework include on-board and site inspections of the Costa Cruise and Corsica Ferries passenger vessels and terminal facilities: the ship's officers were invited to guide the high school students across the wide spectrum of the port, shipping and supply chain industry, in terms of the myriad of work opportunities on offer in a variety of roles.
At the beginning of the year, the Ports of Savona and Vado-Ligure provided the backdrop to a visit on the part of students enrolled in Milan's Bocconi and Polytechnic Master Degree's programme of Transport and Infrastructure Economics and Management, with a site inspection of the new semi-automated Vado Gateway container terminal.
In Genoa, undergraduates from the US Haslam College of Business of the University of Tennessee and the Swiss Vocational-Technical College in Bellinzona were invited on guided boat tours, organised by the Port Authority Communications and Marketing Management, of the cargo and passenger facilities of Italy's leading port.
