Ports of Genoa and Port of Kobe, cooperation in sustainability and innovation

Two cities with an age-long seafaring tradition meet to share examples of best-practice and know-how in port activities. A delegation of the Port of Kobe-Osaka, led by the President Kido Takfumi, visited the Ports of Genoa, opening up new opportunities to collaborate in terms of sustainability, logistics and innovation.

4 November 2024 - The meeting was held at the historic headquarters of the Western Ligurian Sea Port Authority of Palazzo San Giorgio, which provided the stunning backdrop to a presentation, conducted by representatives of the host together with Liguria International, Spediporto (Association of Freight-forwarders) and Assagenti (Association of Ship Agents), of the services offered by the vibrant Ports of Genoa and Savona-Vado maritime cluster. The Japanese fact-finding mission focused specifically on clean energy transition, port planning and technological innovation.

The Port of Kobe delegation proceeded the visit with an on-site inspection of the flagship full-container terminals of Genova PSA Pra’ and APM Vado Gateway, which feature state-of-the-art automated systems to ensure increased efficiency in container handling procedures and operations, with a subsequent reduction in vessel terminal dwell time.

The Ligurian shipping community and the Port of Kobe-Osaka plan to cement further relations across an exchange visit on the part of the Italian delegation to the Japanese port in the forthcoming year, in conjunction with the annual assembly of IAPH to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the establishment of the International Association of Ports & Harbours in Kobe in 1955, and Expo 2025, the Universal Exposition, scheduled in Osaka between April and October, and which foresees the participation of the Liguria Region in the first week of June.
