A fact-finding mission from Switzerland inspects port facilities and discusses infrastructure development and the role of IT in logistics management.
The Consulate General of Switzerland in Milan organised a two-day mission to Genoa for a delegation of shippers, rail operators, supply chain management and industry journalists.
In view of the inauguration of the Gotthard Base Tunnel a year ago and the near-completion of the Ceneri Base Tunnel which is to open in 2020, the visit featured high-level meetings with senior management of the Western Ligurian Sea Port Authority and Genoa and Savona’s vibrant shipping community, and an on-site inspection of the Terzo Valico (the Third Railway Line across the Apennines) construction works.
A focal point of the delegation’s agenda was to ascertain the implementation of a range of major rail infrastructure projects underway, including the upgrading of the Genoa-Tortona-Milan rail line, allied to the Port Authority’s ongoing commitment to offer an efficient and competitive port logistics platform, in terms of costs and transit times, serving not only Northern Italy but also Switzerland and Southern Europe overall.
The visit provided an opportunity for the major players of the Italian and Swiss supply chain to exchange insight on respective requirements and common expectations.
