Over 16.5 million tonnes of general cargo handled annually by the Ports of Genoa, Savona and Vado.
The 11th edition of the leading international breakbulk, heavy-lift and project cargo event came to a close on 31 May 2018 in Bremen. The Western Ligurian Sea Port Authority, which groups together the Ports of Genoa, Savona and Vado Ligure, showcased the broad range of tailor-made services on offer, under the banner “Ports of Genoa – Your Global Multi-Service Port”. Port Authority management was joined for the full three days by the terminal operating companies who over the years have acquired a justified reputation for handling difficult project and heavy-lift cargo: namely, APM Terminals and Reefer Terminal from Vado Ligure, Campostano Group - Savona Terminals and Grimaldi Group Savona Terminal Auto which operate from Savona, and FO.RE.S.T, C.Steinweg-GMT, Spinelli-Genoa Port Terminal, Terminal San Giorgio and Messina-Intermodal Marine Terminal based in Genoa, in addition to ship agents and freight-forwarders from the Ports of Genoa’s vibrant shipping community, specialised in the handling of heavy equipment.
The conventional and dry bulk commodity sector accounts for a quarter of total tonnage handled by the Western Ligurian Sea Port Authority, approximately 16.5 million tonnes per year. Specifically, the ro-ro sector is amongst the fastest developing cargo segments in the port and in 2017 reported a 14.5% increase over the previous year, thanks to ongoing investments in the dedicated Motorways of the Sea terminal facilities in Genoa and Savona.
This year’s edition of Breakbulk Europe featured 400 exhibitors and drew over 8,000 visitors, and served as an excellent networking hub from which the Ports of Genoa team presented the full range of commodity services provided to all users requiring specific solutions in the transport of forest products, steel, ro-ro, project and oversized cargo across Southern Europe and the Mediterranean basin.
