The President of the Western Ligurian Sea Port Authority was invited as guest speaker today, 7 June, at the Rhine-Alpine Corridor Conference 2018 held in the European Committee of the Regions headquarters in Brussels. Paolo Emilio Signorini presented the Ports of Genoa perspective as Mediterranean maritime gateway to the Corridor.
“We are entering an important phase of the construction stage of the Rhine-Alpine Corridor”, declared President Signorini, “Europe’s leading multimodal corridor in terms of GNP and population size of the EU. Genoa has assumed its rightful role as the first port of call of the Corridor, that is, as southern maritime gateway. Together with the Swiss, the Germans, the Dutch and the Belgians we are implementing major investment programmes in rail, port, inland port and road infrastructure. The year 2022-2023 is the scheduled date of completion for a seamless rail link from Genoa to Rotterdam. We are on the threshold of achieving our objective. However, we are well aware of the fact that, in order to fulfil our goal, it is important to prevent unexpected disruptions from obstructing our progress along this route. The Rastatt incident is an emblematic example. Our participation in all EU institutions which welcome discussions on the future of the multimodal Corridor is vital. My participation in Brussels today is as spokesperson not only for Genoa, but for all the European industrial and consumer centres located along the Corridor, united in our firm commitment towards the swift completion of the projects which are still underway.”
