Two cities with an age-long seafaring tradition meet to share examples of best-practice and know-how in port activities. A delegation of the Port of Kobe-Osaka, led by the President Kido Takfumi, visited the Ports of Genoa, opening up new opportunities to collaborate in terms of sustainability, logistics and innovation.

The 2024 edition of the Italian Port Days in Genoa and Savona-Vado, coordinated by the Western Ligurian Sea Port Authority, provided organised groups of children with the opportunity to explore a myriad of port activities across a wide selection of hands-on learning experiences.

Lugano’s LAC Conference Centre hosts the 7th edition of the “Un Mare di Svizzera Forum”, highlighting the Ports of Genoa and Savona Vado’s strategic role as major logistics platform serving landlocked Switzerland and Southern Europe overall, and primed to respond with resilience to the challenges faced by the global supply chain in today’s volatile geopolitical scenario.

The ports of the Western Liguria Sea Port Authority register strong growth in August 2024 in cargo throughput, driven by containers and solid bulk.

The Blue Agreement has been signed by the Port of Savona-Vado Ligure, the voluntary agreement stipulated by local public authorities and private operators of the maritime cluster to reduce carbon dioxide emissions from ships calling at the port and to mitigate the environmental impact across the surrounding urban fabric.

Genoa, 31 July 2024 - This morning the Government Commissioner Massimo Seno and the Deputy Government Commissioner Alberto Maria Benedetti, accompanied by the Maritime Director of Liguria and the Commander of the Port of Genoa, Rear Admiral Piero Pellizzari, boarded the SAR CP 288 tug to inspect Genoa's port facilities along the 22-km coastline, stretching from the shipyards eastwards to the Genova-Prà full-container terminal westwards.

Genoa has been honoured by the International Association of Marine Aids to Navigation and Lighthouse Authorities (IALA) with the prestigious title of "The Lighthouse of the Year 2024" Award during the annual conference held at the historic Port Authority headquarters of Palazzo San Giorgio.

Terminal facilities overall performed strongly at the Ports of Genoa and Savona-Vado Ligure in April 2024, with an increase in cargo throughput of +11.3% on the corresponding period of the previous year to a monthly total of 5,759,747 tons.

The Genoa Blue Agreement, the voluntary agreement designed to reduce carbon dioxide emissions from passenger and freight ships calling at the Port of Genoa, has been renewed. Amongst one of the first ports in the Mediterranean to have promoted a pact in full support of accelerating the clean energy transition, since 2019 the protocol agreement represents a further major step towards the mission, shared by local public authorities and shipping lines and agents, to reduce the environmental impact of port activities across the city of Genoa which sits alongside the passenger and cargo terminals.
